Our Annual Forum is one of the highlights in the Partnership’s calendar. This year's theme is Tranquillity.
Our Chairman, Patrick Norris, will be the host for our Annual Forum. After his welcome and introduction, attendees will hear about the work of the Partnership and staff team over the past year and coming 12 months before Patrick presents our four guest speakers.
The theme we have chosen this year is Tranquillity. One of the objectives in our AONB Management Plan 2020-24 is to maintain existing levels of tranquility and increase them where possible. In order to gain an understanding of its meaning and value, we have asked our speakers to help us unravel some of the main issues surrounding the concept.
Our speakers include:
- Dr Denise Hewlett
Dr Denise Hewlett is a Senior Fellow for Knowledge Exchange / Principal Investigator of the ESRC-funded Broadly Engaging with Tranquillity Project. She joined Winchester in January 2011 as a Lecturer on Management Programmes. Prior to this appointment and whilst completing her PhD, Denise worked in the public sector and with the EU on projects concerned with managing protected areas for recreational, tourism and conservation objectives; and for Bournemouth University, in the School of Service Industries, as both a Lecturer and Researcher in the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research. Prior to these careers, Denise worked for more than fifteen years in the private sector as a strategic and project manager for a number of national and international organisations in service industries.
- Dr Henna Asikainen
Dr Henna Asikainen is a Finnish artist based in the UK. Her practice explores humans’ complex relationship with nature and its intersections with social justice, climate justice, migration and notions of belonging. Her work often involves participatory elements and has centred on engaging with people with lived experience of migration and displacement. These projects have been built around communal and social experiences within rural landscapes and have examined issues including inequalities in access to nature and green spaces, migration, the sense of belonging and human’s complex relationship with nature while advocating the philosophy of friendship and radical hospitality.
- Madeleine Gohin
Madeleine is the Planning Officer for the Campaigns and Policy team at CPRE. Responsible for local planning support, Madeleine also assists the team in delivering policy and campaigning work on spatial planning. Madeleine holds an RTPI-accredited MSc in Spatial Planning from University College London and has experience in local and neighbourhood plans.
- Dr Georgie Sowman
Georgie is a locally based GP and PHE Physical Activity Clinical Champion for the North East of England. She is the NE Faculty Sustainability lead, and a member of the Climate and Ecological advisory group. Georgie has an interest in Planetary Health and integrating sustainable clinical care into every day practice. She is also a co-founder of NHS Ocean, which aims to ensure that Healthcare impact on Oceanic Health is not forgotten, whilst advocating the benefits of healthy blue spaces and waterways to human health, in particular to those with least equal access to health.
There will be an opportunity ask questions to the guest speakers and the staff team.
