Walkers completing the 62 mile Northumberland Coast Path can now celebrate with a free beer 'on the house' courtesy of the Curfew Micropub in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The Curfew Micropub will offer walkers completing the trail a free half-pint of any of their draft real ales. The offer of a free beer will only be for walkers who can prove they have walked the route by showing their completed Northumberland Coast Path Passports.

The new passport, introduced on the path earlier this year, is carried by walkers who collect stamps at the businesses they have visited along the way. By the time they reach Berwick they will have collected lots of stamps to prove they have walked the whole trail and claim their free beer.

The aim of the passport scheme is to encourage walkers to spend more in local businesses along the route bringing greater benefit to the local economy. I am sure many walkers will take up the offer a free half-pint and hopefully stay longer in the town.

Gemma and David Cook opened the micropub, on the town’s Bridge Street in 2014 and it has already won ‘Northumberland Pub of the Year’ in the Campaign for Real Ale awards. They are delighted to offer Northumberland Coast Path walkers a free half-pint to celebrate reaching the end of the trail. They already get a few walkers into the pub and hopefully this initiative will bring a few more of them in at the end of their walk.

The sunny yard was the perfect place to relax after a long walk today, being only a short stroll from the official end of the trail on the Quayside.

The new ‘Northumberland Coast Path Passport’ and official guidebook for the trail are available from the path website www.northumberlandcoastpath.org or from our publications page.

If any other businesses on the Northumberland Coast Path would like to get involved with this initiative they should contact Iain Robson at the AONB Office
