We're pleased to share the itinerary for our Bioblitz at Warkworth Beach picnic site on 21-22 June.
Meet us at Warkworth Beach picnic site this weekend for our next 24-hour Bioblitz. A Bioblitz is an intense period of biological surveying to record all the living species within a diverse area. The event will take place from 1pm on Friday 21st June through to 1pm on Saturday 22nd June, with plenty of opportunities to take part in wildlife surveys.
A combination of scientists, naturalists and volunteers are set to conduct an intensive field study over this continuous time, and we’re pleased to share our full itinerary. Events include a bird ringing demonstration, saltmarsh exploration, small mammal identification, moths after dark, a butterfly walk and finding out more about minibeasts.
Whatever your wildlife interests, there’s something for everyone to get involved with. For example, join Emma and Iain from the Northumberland Coast National Landscape team on Friday evening for a view from the dunes and look out to sea for seabirds, whales, and dolphins. Meanwhile, on Saturday morning, Steve Lowe from the Northumberland Rivers Trust will be checking mammal traps, and this is a great chance to identify species you may not have seen before.
The event is free, open to the public and everyone is welcome to come along.
See the full list of times and activities below, and as always, do get in touch for more information. We hope to see you there!
