There is only one public launching point within the AONB for small powered leisure craft; this is at Beadnell. Larger craft can be launched from Berwick-upon-Tweed, Seahouses and Amble harbours.
Beadnell Bay is the only area in the AONB suitable for activities such as water and jet skiing.
Code of conduct
We have developed a code of conduct for the use of powered craft:
• The entire coast of Northumberland and Berwickshire from Amble and Coquet Island to Fast Castle Head is designated for its birdlife, marine life and marine habitats. Therefore it should be treated with respect.
• Before launching, conduct boat checks – seaworthy, alternative propulsion i.e. oars or paddle, lifejackets and killcord
• Ensure you have good visibility, weather and sea conditions. Keep a good lookout at all times.
• Wear lifejackets, always obey the byelaws, take due care in ecologically sensitive areas, know tidal movements and water depths.
• Know the ‘rules of the road’, look out for warning signs and buoyage, show common courtesy.
• Do not operate in bathing areas and respect other water users’ space.
• Do not be a nuisance (noise, speed, parking, launching); do not pollute with oil or any kind of rubbish.
