The Northumberland Coast National Landscape is now hiring a Project Officer.
Looking for an exciting new job? The Northumberland Coast National Landscape is hiring a full-time Project Officer, with applications open until 16th June. The fixed-term role involves overseeing projects to engage visitors and encourage car-free exploration of the coast, as part of our Visitor Travel Strategy.
The experienced Project Officer will join our small but busy team of eight, working to conserve and enhance this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on a contract that’s initially until 31st March 2026.
To start with, they’ll be responsible for overseeing a new interpretation and signage plan for the National Landscape and the installation of physical interpretation and creation of digital assets. The Project Officer will also have oversight of a contract to produce a study that will help us get visitors to and from Holy Island in a more sustainable way.
Meanwhile, in year two of the contract, the focus moves to working with communities to create ‘place plans’ that make car-free travel a possibility for visitors and locals alike. The aim is to encourage a shift from people using private cars to public transport and active travel, alongside other actions in our Visitor Travel Strategy.
This vacancy is an ideal opportunity for a Project Officer with experience of contract management, visitor travel, access and interpretation beneficial (but not essential). It’s a hybrid role and the office is based in Alnwick, with travel required throughout Northumberland and working from home an option too.
Northumberland Coast National Landscape Chairman Patrick Norris says: "The Project Officer role is a fantastic opportunity for the successful applicant to deliver a range of important projects, with a focus on sustainable travel to protect and regenerate the Northumberland Coast National Landscape."
