Registration is now open for the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership's 2016 Annual Forum
This year’s forum is being held at Westfield Park in Longhoughton on Friday 2nd December. The forum will include a mixture of updates on the work of the AONB Partnership and guest speakers. Speakers include Mark Eaton, who is a Principal Conservation Scientist with RSPB and will be putting the ‘State of Nature Report’ into a local context. The report, published in September this year, has been compiled by 50 wildlife organisations and is a stock take of our native wildlife. We are also excited to welcome back Sam Isaac, who was with the Partnership on an internship and wrote our Sustainable Tourism Strategy. She will present the findings from her PhD on sustainable tourism.
Other speakers are Clive Hallam-Baker. He has worked on the commemorations for the 1000 year anniversary of the Battle of Carham and will enlighten us on the endeavours undertaken to remember this event. Rob Young and Richard Carlton will tell us about the Peregrini Landscape Partnership’s community archaeology projects that have been carried out throughout the year. Jessica Turner will give and inspiring talk on the committal of Anglo Saxon skeletons into the crypt at St Aidan's in Bamburgh
We are also pleased to welcome Phil Dyke, a coast and marine advisor from the National Trust, who will look back at the Enterprise Neptune Campaign, which allowed them to buy 574 miles of coastline. Fifty years on from then, Phil will look at how that has shaped the lessons for coastal management.
Cllr John Woodman, Chair of the AONB Partnership said “This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the Northumberland coast to come together and contribute towards the work of the AONB Partnership. We will be telling people about the current work of the Partnership and some exciting new projects for the future. We have an excellent range of speakers adding to what I am sure will be an interesting and thought provoking day”.
Lunch as well as mid-morning and afternoon refreshments will be provided. Places cost £10 to cover our costs and are limited, so registration is essential.
