The National Landscape’s 2025 Bioblitz took place from Friday 20th to Saturday 21st June at Waren Caravan and Camping Park near Bamburgh. Over the 24-hour period, 288 wildlife species were recorded.

The Northumberland Coast National Landscape team was joined by experts, visitors and Conservation Team volunteers at the Bioblitz, with support from the Environmental Records Information Centre. Activities included an invertebrates search, a wildflower walk, pond dipping, moth trap reveal, butterfly hunt and a bat walk.

National Landscape Nature Recovery and Farming Advisory Officer Mark Middleton said: “The Bioblitz was a great success and enjoyed by a wide range of participants, volunteers, families and experts.  We recorded a total of 288 species across the 24-hour event.  These included 119 different plants, 47 species of bird, 15 of moths, 13 species of fungi, 12 of bees, and 7 different butterfly species.  One young participant who joined us on the bat walk said it was his “best night ever watching wildlife!”
